Learning Opportunities

Bible Studies


Forest Park Manor Bible Study-Meets each week on Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the community room. The study group uses the "Upper Room," a devotional magazine, as a resource. Forest Park Manor is located at 707 West Summit Ave. If you have questions about the study group please feel free to contact Cathy Shull, facilitator, at 712-246-5347.

Sunday Night Bible Study-Our bible study is presently doing the study on the "Basics of our Christian Faith". There are 7 different segments of study. Each has different scriptures on the different segments of our faith, with questions to stimulate discussing and understanding what each of these means. We meet each Sunday at 5:00 pm in the Memorial Room, just south of the Welcome Center in the south sanctuary. Larry Cowherd is the facilitator.

Sunday School-We have Sunday School classes for all ages from 10:30-11:30 a.m. (September-April)


Kids

3 yr's.-1st Grade – Located on the 2nd floor of Wesley Hall, second door on the left. We use the curriculum by Group Christian Publications “Learn & Worship." We study all the basic Bible Stories, from Adam & Eve to the Easter Story. We have lessons, music, snacks, & crafts every Sunday. We do special programs involving singing, actions, Christmas Pageants, Bible verse & prayers memorization recites, and performances in the worship services at special times of the year. We do this separately and with the other children/youth classes. We usually have a special Christmas party and end-of-the-school-year party. The classroom instructor is Cindy Nelson and helper Shelly Hamilton.

2nd-5th Grade - Located on the 2nd floor of Wesley Hall, the sixth door on the right. We use the curriculum by Cokesbury Christian Publications “Dive Deep." We study all the basic Bible stories. We have lessons, games, snacks, & crafts every Sunday. We do special programs involving singing, actions, Christmas Pageants, Bible verse and prayer memorization recites, and performances in the worship services at special times of the year. We do this separately and with the other children/youth classes. We usually have a special Christmas party and end-of-the-school-year party. The classroom instructor is Rena Richardson, and helper Mary Jane DeLong.

6th-12 grade - Located on the bottom floor of Wesley Hall, first door on the left. We use Youth Specialties- "Talksheets" by David Lynn as our classroom recourse. The classroom instructors are Dan & Deb Finlay.

Adults

Quester's Class -This class is for adults of any age - Located down the southeast church entrance steps and straight to the left at the bottom of the steps. We are studying the devotional magazine “The Upper Room” with lesson, scripture, and questions. Classroom instructors are Elinor Sharp and Della Staples.

The Early Out Afterschool Program


The Early-Out Wednesday Afterschool Program (Every Early-out Wednesday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. August-May. This program is for students in the Shenandoah Community School (only) for ages JK - 3rd grades. Located on the 2nd floor of Wesley Hall (this building is located across the alley south of our main church). The Director is Cindy Nelson, helpers are Cathy Shull and Mary Jane DeLong. There are activities such as legos, learning games, reading stories, play dough, coloring pictures, and local people from the community present puppets or origami activities. We have snacks, like home-made cupcakes decorated for a special holiday, and crafts, such as snowflakes, Christmas ornaments, friendship bracelets, etc.. The program is FREE for those in JK-3rd (*Senior high school students may help for their Community Service Hours required to graduate. They must first get permission from Liz Skillern, the school adviser of the service hour program).

5th Quarter


This program takes place every Friday night after all HOME football games until 11:00 p.m. (August-October). This program is for Shenandoah High School students ONLY (9th-12th grade) and is located in the United Methodist Church basement. There is always a FREE meal provided by local businesses. There are games to play such as Wii, air hockey, ping-pong, and board games.
